Under 9′s v Hollingworth Juniors Blacks – 3 September 2011

EMJFL League Fixture

A GAME OF TWO HALVES

STARS       0 – 4     HOLLINGWORTH (ht 0-1)

GALAXY     0 – 1    HOLLINGWORTH (ht 0-1)

After the layoff from competitive matches over the summer the first fixture of the season provided a mix of entertaining pass and move football with periods of sloppy kick and rush play.

Game 1:

Stars started their game as though the summer break had given them new resolve with a performance that matched the best of last season, and were unlucky to concede on the stroke of half time. Brodi showed some cool touches during a disciplined display at the back and some of the passing in midfield was delightful. Perhaps the praise the coaches gave the players for their display in the half time team talk went to their heads as the second half started with goals quickly conceded as concentration was left on the sideline with the drinks bottles. Improvements were seen as determination returned but by the end there were moments of madness returning to the teams display after Hollingwoth scored their fourth. Overall a promising performance to build on but struggled to overpower a much improved Hollingworth side.

MotM: Owen – a great determined performance with some strong tackling and dribbling and effort to chase back.

Game 2:

The two halves in Galaxy’s game were the opposite of the Stars game. The team took a while to get going and seemed out of sorts all through the first half, conceding only the one goal when more might have been coming. Max continued his great display in the Stars game which, with Mats strong display at the back, keep it down to just the one. Positional switches at half time gave the team more of a threat with Noah going close a few times from Josh’s crosses. Play swung from end to end as Galaxy tried for the equaliser and Hollingworth attacks were stopped by strong play from Mat Smith and Morgan. In the end the players couldn’t quite find the finishing touch and it ended in a loss. Again glimpses of potential were seen but these were not there all match again against a good Hollingworth side worthy of their win.

MotM: Morgan – a strong, battling display between defence and midfield especially in the second half.

Player of the Week: Brodi – carrying on from training he showed that he can hold his position in defence and also control that obvious passion during a skillful display.
