Under 8′s vs Reddish Phoenix 3rd Sept 2011

Well done to all the boys that took part today, apologies if some of the points in the match report are not accurate I have done it all from memory.
1st Match

Despite the debutants, Luke in goal, Rhys, Finlay and Louis all playing their first league match for the team, there were encouraging signs. Although the team lost 5-0 the performance of the players is the most compelling factor, especially since Reddish Phoenix only brought 9 players (the bulk of which are their A Team).
Luke did very well in goal, his kicking was strong, he pulled off a couple of excellent saves, one of which he reacted brilliantly to palm on the post.
Joe G was the usual rock in defence with some excellently timed powerful challenges, he was composed when he had the ball and continues to play simple and effective football, a solid performance.
Rhys was fantastic on his debut in the league, continually putting his foot on the ball looking for the pass. He put in some very solid and well timed challenges and was assured in posession.
Oliver T, after strong performances in the Duckinfield tournament Oliver continues to improve particularly with the ball at his feet. Oliver hit a lovely right foot shot that whistled just passed the post.
Finlay only joined the team on Friday and was thrust straight into the action in todays game. He went about the game very well got stuck in and certainly didn’t look out of place.
James was his usual terrier like self, chasing after the ball and getting involved in the game. James continues to improve with every minute he plays.
Louis did well in his debut for the club, he got involved in the action with some good tackles and got a good shot away.

A very good start to the season from the boys as they continue from last seasons league form with yet another win.
The midfield quartet had a new addition in Kieran and he did not look out of place. The midfield played some lovely football, passing and moving, getting down the wings for crosses exactly as we had worked on in training.
The only criticism of the team is that sometimes the midfield do not track back quick enough and leave Kyle open and as a result we conceded a goal.
The attacking football was fantastic, Jude with powerful tackles and simple passing followed by a good cross field pass from Kian led to a powerful strike by Josh and 1-0.
Some minutes later Kieran burst down the right fired in a cross and unfortunately nobody connected this time.
Kian and Jude worked tirelessly to win the ball back and Jude played a wonderful ball to Josh which he put away for 2-0.
Kieran won the ball, passed to Kian who passed to Oliver S, who then returned the ball to Kian who hit a wonderful pass forward by for Jude leaving him one on one and he placed the ball with the outside of his foot in to the corner for 3-0.
Although Reddish scored to bring the score to 3-1, the win never looked in doubt as the midfield continued to probe and press.

In the second half, Josh hit not one but two wonderful cross field balls to Kian after strong tackles from both Kyle and Jude. Kian struck a lovely shot but it whistled just wide.
Kyle played a good ball down the wing to Oli, who passed infield to Jude, who passed to Josh but the ball was lost and came to Kian. He hit a pass to Kieran on  the right wing who danced passed the defender and was fouled. Kieran fired in a brilliant free kick and Jude smashed the ball in to the roof of the net.
Mossley continued to win the ball and press forward, this time Kian won the ball and sprinted with the ball down the right wing and from a tight angle he smashed it into the net (although he later admitted it was a cross!).<
A 5-1 win is a great start, 3 different goal scorers, 3 people setting up goals. A good day.
