Mossley Juniors U11’s v  AFC Oldham Blacks U11’s

This Saturday saw the second meeting of the season between Mossley Juniors U11’s and AFC Oldham Blacks U11’s. Mossley’s 5-2 win in the previous fixture was a good contest played in wet conditions, by contrast the sun was shining this time around as Mossley looked to continue their excellent start to the season.

1^st Half

• A competitive opening sees some early midfield exchanges.
• The first shot of the match comes from Harrison but he doesn’t connect like we know he can and the Oldham keeper saves quite easily.
• Oldham press but Sean, who is one of many players that have been in fine form this season defends well to avert the danger.

• Great feet from Ciaran Mc who then tries to thread a ball through but Oldham defend well.
• Harrison finds Ciaran Mc who in turn finds Jacob down the left, he gets a cross in but again Oldham are watchful in defence and clear.
• Another counter from Oldham is dealt with by Ciaran F who clears out for a throw.
• More good defending between James and Sean who manage to stop the opposition and then get the ball clear.
• Mossley attack again as Harrison bursts through the centre but Oldham are sticking to the task and although he makes good ground the attack comes to nothing.
• Olivia volleys the ball forward in an attempt to start another Mossley attack.
• James does well defensively on the right first of all and then moments later he heads clear.
• Oldham come again but Ciaran F clears this time.
• Oldham continue to enjoy a brief spell of pressure and from Harrison’s attempted clearance they shoot high over the bar.
• Great skills from Harrison who then passes to Joe as Mossley look to counter.

• The game continues to ebb and flow and as Oldham come again Sean covers excellently to put the ball out.
• Super pass from Ciaran F who finds Ciaran Mc.
• Mossley head the ball away through James.
• Joe makes a brilliant sliding tackle but picks up a knock in the process, resulting in the ref stopping play. Joe is ok and play restarts with a drop-ball.
• The Mossley defence does well as a unit as Oldham are flagged offside.
• Ciaran F then finds Harrison who releases Jacob but the Oldham keeper is out fast and does enough to prevent Mossley from taking the lead.
• Great skills by Joe in the right corner. He then links up well with Harrison.
• Sean clears as Oldham come forward once more.
• Jacob, Charlie and Reece combine well before Jacob crosses to Reece who has found some space in the box, he can’t get his shot away though and is crowded out.
• Reece is almost put clean through from Ciaran F’s throughball.
• Ciaran F then links up well with Sean who has been pushed further forward following substitutions.
• Great play between Charlie and Reece whose one-two ends with Charlie firing wide from outside the penalty area.
• More great pressure from Reece who dispossesses a defender but is again crowded out before he can muster a shot at goal.
• The vice captain Oliver stops an Oldham attack by clearing the ball out of play. No nonsense.
• Oliver then finds Reece with a nice ball forward.
• A low skidding shot by Oldham is well fielded by Yves.

• Oldham are halted in their tracks thanks to a typically committed tackle from the industrious Charlie.
• The game is still tight and tense although Mossley continue to look the more threatening team.
• It is hard fought though as Oliver is required to make a couple of good tackles whilst Reece continually harasses the Oldham defence in an attempt to force an error.
• A long kick downfield from Yves is helped on by Reece but Oldham remain solid at the back.
• Oldham respond by earning a free-kick which enables them to pump the ball into the Mossley box, the ball bounces around dangerously before Oliver gets it clear.
• Another Mossley move sees Charlie, Jacob and Reece link-up well.
• There is some good play on the right from Olivia who runs purposefully at the Oldham defence. Leading from the front.
• Acrobatic clearance by Charlie who hooks the ball clear.
• The opening goal finally arrives as Jacob dispossesses an Oldham player on the left before releasing Reece who runs towards goal, he is under pressure but keeps possession well and just when it looks like the opportunity may have gone he curls one beautifully into the far corner – a touch of finesse from ‘the bulldozer’. 1-0 to MOSSLEY.
• The goal has lifted Mossley and Sean tackles the last defender but doesn’t get hold of his shot which is saved by the Oldham goalie.
• Oldham look for a response but James gets the ball away from danger.
• The Mossley commitment is evident again as Charlie slides in to perfection to win the ball.

• A nice Mossley move turns defence into attack as James plays it up to Sean who flicks it on for Olivia to run onto.
• A great turn by the captain gets her some space.
• Reece is nearly clean through again but can’t quite latch onto Charlie’s pass.
• Mossley continue to look for a second as Sean runs at the Oldham defence.
• A long ball forward by Oldham stretches Mossley’s defence but Yves is alert and is quickly out to gather and then clear downfield.
• Jacob skilfully creates some space on the left but his cross into the danger zone is punched clear by the Oldham keeper.

• Oldham counter but a combination of Ciaran F and James help get the ball away and preserve the lead.
• And it’s straight back up the other end where Mossley earn a corner which is taken by Charlie and flicked on by Jacob to Sean who is a whisker away from adding the second.

• The second goal isn’t long coming though and Sean is heavily involved as he and Olivia play a one-two before he passes inside to Jacob who controls and then hits a low right-foot finish past the keeper. 2-0 to MOSSLEY.
• It is almost half-time but Mossley are rampant now and Reece is thwarted by the Oldham goalie who saves his goalbound effort before Olivia sees her attempt headed off the line.
• HALFTIME.

2^nd Half

• Harrison makes a great break forward before finding Jacob with a defence splitting pass, Jacob gets a cross in but Oldham clear.
• Andrew then gets the ball forward and Ciaran Mc sees his volley saved, however the ball falls to Jacob who knocks in the rebound to make it three. 3-0 to MOSSLEY.
• Mossley are in command now and although Oldham try to respond Andrew makes a great tackle to regain possession.
• Harrison is on fire and he causes panic with a run at the Oldham defence which just about manages to stop him.
• Another good clearance by James keeps Oldham at bay.

• Good link-up play by Jacob and Ciaran Mc and then further interplay between Olivia and Ciaran Mc helps Mossley maintain control.
• Ciaran Mc then does well on the right and his cross finds Jacob whose shot comes back off the post denying him his hat-trick.

• Everytime Oldham try to attack they are met by a firm Mossley defence, this time Andrew makes a good tackle before clearing his lines.
• James finds Ciaran Mc who displays nice skills to hang onto the ball.

• Top-scorer Ciaran Mc almost gets his name on the scoresheet as he latches onto Jacob’s throw to get in behind the Oldham defence but his shot from an acute angle flashes across the goal.
• Lovely play as Oliver passes to Olivia who then finds Harrison whose shot goes wide of the upright.
• Oldham continue to work hard though and they force Callum into a save at his near post before Oliver blocks another effort at goal.
• Olivia then does excellently down the right before Andrew’s ball sends Ciaran Mc through on goal, he shoots but the Oldham keeper does well and gets down low to make the save.
• Andrew’s ball into the box causes problems and Olivia gets to the ball just ahead of Harrison to knock it into the back of the net. 4-0 to MOSSLEY.
• Great response from Oldham though as they attack and force Callum into an excellent save, however he is helpless as the rebound is knocked in from close range. 4-1 to MOSSLEY.
• Straight from the restart, Mossley attack again as Reece battles to get on the end ofHarrison’s long punt forward.
• After earning a corner, Mossley grab a fifth as Joe’s kick reaches Reece whose lay-off enables Harrison to fire home low. 5-1 to MOSSLEY.
• Almost instantly Reece bursts through again but the Oldham keeper has been unbelievable so far on one v one’s and again denies Mossley with a good stop.
• Joe then does well on the right and his determination enables him to get a cross in.
• Moments later Andrew finds Reece who plays in Joe who finishes in style to make it six. 6-1 to MOSSLEY.

• There is a real confidence to Mossley’s play and James strides forward again and tries his luck from distance but the shot goes wide.
• Oldham continue to come forward but are met by a combination of Oliver and Ciaran F who stop their next attack.
• Ciaran F plays in Reece with a lovely through-ball but ‘the bulldozer’s’ shot is saved by the Oldham keeper who does excellently again.
• Oldham threaten with some good play down their right but Mossley again defend well.
• On the next Oldham attack Callum is alert and comes out to clear to Ciaran F who then finds Jacob on the left and his great through-ball sends Harrison away, he holds off the attentions of the last defender then draws the keeper but prods it agonisingly wide.
• Another good response from Oldham though and Callum has to be on his toes and again is off his line to clear downfield.
• There is more good work down the right by Joe before Charlie plays in Jacob whose dangerous cross is headed away well.
• Moments later Harrison strikes the upright with a trademark thunderbolt from outside the area, Reece is all over the rebound but the keeper makes another great save. Unlucky.

• James makes a marauding run down the right, out of defence, he gets a great cross in, Harrison meets it but again it just goes wide.
• Great team defence from a corner by Mossley which ends with Oldham shooting over the bar.
• Further good defending by Oliver who covers well and then by the captain who heads the ball away.
• Callum has definitely been busier than Yves had been in the first half and again he is called upon to save an Oldham header.
• Joe again makes good ground on the right before Reece and Harrison link-up.
• Oldham continue to look for another goal but Ciaran F, who has been ‘a wall’ in defence, again comes away with the ball.
• Close to the final whistle, Reece gets a shot away after receiving Jacob’s pass but once again the Oldham keeper denies him another goal.

Another great show by Mossley this week, who again worked hard and played some tremendous football during this victory. The first half was relatively close but Mossley found another gear in the second half and ended up running away with the win.
