Mossley Juniors U11’s v Uppermill JFC 2 U11’s

10th September 2011

After last week’s tremendous win it was a match against unfamiliar opposition this week as Mossley U11’s faced Uppermill JFC2 U11’s.  Obviously confidence was high in the Mossley camp and a full squad was available as Oliver returned after missing the first game of the season.

 *Rolling substitutions are permitted so changes were constantly being made throughout the game and these were not included within the match report.

1^st Half

• Uppermill look a big strong team and they begin well, forcing an early free-kick which is hit wastefully wide.

Defending the free-kick

• Sean makes a great challenge and then finds Ciaran M with a lovely pass.

Defender wins it

• Jacob beats his man and gets a cross in but Uppermill defend well.

  No 11 gets down the left

• Jacob in the action again as he picks up Harrison’s pass and bursts through but his cleanly struck effort from outside the box is straight at the keeper who holds on well.
• Ciaran picks up the ball from a throw-in and displays the usual silky skills before passing to Olivia whose scuffed shot is cleared.
• Uppermill come again but Ciaran F tackles well.
• A hooked shot from Ciaran M misses the target but not by much.
• A long shot by Jacob is on target but is easily fielded by the Uppermill keeper.
• Following the goalkeeper’s kick, Ciaran M regains possession and feeds the in-form Joe who beats his man and rifles a shot into the net via the far post. 1-0 Mossley.
• Good response from Uppermill who shoot wide on their next attack.
• Great clearing tackle from a committed Charlie.
• Harrison works the keeper with a long shot.
• Joe meets Jacob’s low corner but the ball goes agonisingly wide.
• Great save again by the Uppermill keeper who thwarts Harrison from distance once more.
• This time the bar prevents Harrison from getting on the scoresheet as his shot from outside the box rebounds to safety.
• A wonderful defence splitting ball from Charlie finds Harry who fires into the side-netting.
• Charlie repeats the trick but Harry just can’t reach it.
• It’s two. Harrison’s love affair with the woodwork continues as another brilliant shot from distance hits the bar but Reece aka ‘The Bulldozer’ is on hand to control and then place the ball in the keeper’s bottom left hand corner. 2-0 Mossley.

 Bulldozer

• Uppermill again attack but Mossley absorb the pressure well before captain Olivia pumps the ball forward for Reece to run clear and finish expertly again. 3-0 Mossley.
• Straight from the kickoff Reece finds Charlie on the left and he cuts inside and hits a delicious curler that is heading for the top corner until the Uppermill keeper intervenes and claws it away – super save.

No 80 in action

• Olivia sends Reece clear again and after hitting the post ‘The Bulldozer’ knocks in the rebound for an 8 minute hat-trick. 4-0 Mossley.

• Harry is fouled in the box after being found by another cracking pass from Charlie  – Penalty. No-one is more deserving of a goal than Harrison who steps up and puts it away with great aplomb. 5-0 Mossley.

  No 8 scores from the spot

• Olivia calms it down in midfield before finding Charlie who exchanges passes with Harrison before seeing his attempt saved.
• Following a long kick downfield, Uppermill hit a great shot at goal but Callum saves well.
• From defence to attack. Harrison releases Harry but he shoots over.

Midfield supremacy

• Reece breaks through again but this time his shot is well saved.
• Mossley’s defence is stretched as halftime approaches. Uppermill break but Jacob covers a lot of ground to make a goal-saving tackle just as the trigger is about to be pulled.
• HALFTIME.

2^nd Half

• Oliver intercepts well and sets another attack away with a pass down the line.
• From Harry’s throw on the right, Reece wriggles free but sees his shot blocked.
• Yves is called into action and dives on the ball.
• Yves saves well.
• Uppermill are showing they haven’t given up and again Yves is forced into another save.
• Charlie gets his head to Jacob’s cross in the box but it is just too high for him to get over the ball and head it at goal.
• Yves is a lot busier than Callum had been as Uppermill show great character and he saves well again. He can’t hold it but the rebound is knocked over the bar.

 No 1 goalie was busy

• Good strong tackle by Andrew.
• Likewise from James who wins the ball before finding Sean with a good pass.
• Tenacious play by Ciaran M whose determination enables the ball to break to Sean who sees his shot hit the base of the near post.
• Good football as Andrew, Harry and Joe link up.
• Not once but twice Andrew determinedly heads the ball clear.
• Great one-two between Charlie and Sean.
• Oliver finds Ciaran M with a great pass.
• Ciaran M races clear from Harrison’s pass and coolly dispatches the ball past the keeper and into the net. 6-0 Mossley.

 No 21 races clear

• The same combo combine again as Harrison sends Ciaran M away once more but this time the Uppermill keeper saves bravely at his feet.
• The captain almost gets her name on the scoresheet but her long range effort is blocked.
• Much improved since half-time, Uppermill burst clean through but Charlie comes from nowhere to make a terrific last ditch tackle. Commitment.

Commitment

• Joe shoots from distance. It’s close but just goes wide.
• Good clearance by James.
• Oliver heads it away.
• Uppermill are determined to score and perhaps deserve to on the basis of their second half performance but another save by Yves comes to Mossley’s rescue.
• A sustained spell of Uppermill pressure but they shoot wide on two occasions.

Mossley hold firm

• Respite as Ciaran M hits them on the counter but he steers his shot wide this time.
• Following a corner, Uppermill blast one over the bar.
• Another break down the right for Uppermill but the attacker fires wide under pressure from the super-fit Jacob who tracks all the way back.
• Mossley resistance is broken as the same attacker gets in on the right and this time finishes well, low and hard past Yves. 6-1 Mossley.
• Great play between Joe and Charlie as Joe gets on the end of Charlie’s dinked ball only to be called offside.
• Uppermill attack again, this time down the left and although Yves saves brilliantly once more he is helpless to prevent the follow-up effort from being prodded home. 6-2 Mossley.
• Nearly seven as Joe forces their keeper into a good save right at the death.

An excellent performance from Mossley, especially in the first half when some of the football was a joy to behold. They showed great commitment and determination and fantastic skill and composure on the ball throughout. Superb victory.     Gaffer says ” without doubt our best ever 1st half performance against a quality team , Oldham up next ” .
