1st Half

Mossley were in for a tough challenge this week at Astley Sports College. A heavy downpour just before the match started was going to make conditions difficult, especially for the keepers. Oldham was one of the toughest teams from last season. How would they fair today? After a nervous start from both teams with the ball mostly staying around the midfield area, Mossley began to settle and string some good passing plays together. Olivia and Harrison then took charge of the game and spread the play well. Jacob and Charlie were making some good runs and putting the Oldham players under a lot of pressure. Sean was off to a great start, he was commanding the defence well.

 

  • It was becoming a tense battle as both teams were fighting hard to win the ball and break the deadlock. The sun appeared and conditions were getting better. There were quite a few chances at both ends of the pitch. Callum was doing well with some fine stops. Charlie was running all over the pitch tracking the ball and putting in some great tackles. 

 

  • Jacob was on top form today from the start he was hungry for the ball and making some great decisive runs down the left wing. A great pass from the midfield from Harrison found Jacob on one of these runs and he dispatched the ball with great confidence GOAL 1-0 Mossley!  

 

  • The deadlock was broken. This boosted Mossley and Harrison and Olivia were really taking it to the opposition now, putting Oldham under a lot of pressure, the Oldham players had no answer to their commitment and determination to win the ball.

 

 

  • Joe and Harry joined the match at this point which gave the team a real boost. Their passing and running was exactly what was needed at this time. 

 

The half was wearing on it was still a tense affair! Could Mossley get the vital second goal to relieve the pressure and give them a well deserved two goal cushion? Oldham were now pressing hard and won a corner. The Corner kick was a brilliant in swinger, the defenders and Callum were unable to deal with it as it crept into the net GOAL 1-1 Oldham! 

 

  • Mossley weren’t taking that. They were straight back at them Harrison had a fantastic long range shot which skimmed the bar and just went over! (3rd time in 2 games!) Harrisons definately up for the crossbar challenge.

 

 Jacob dropped back into central midfield and Charlie now occupied the left wing position. Despite the equaliser Mossley now seemed to be the more settled team playing well together. 

 

  • Half time Mossley 1-1 Oldham

  　

2nd Half

  • After the motivational team talk the match resumed. Balanced on a knife edge at one goal a piece. Yves was now on for Callum in goal, Harrison was back on for Joe on the right wing and Ciaran Mc was on for Harry up front. Mossley were off to a great start, forcing Oldham back who were holding firm with some great defending and with a succession of fine saves from their keeper. Oldham had a rare break beating the offside trap. Sean was there to clean it up. He was putting in a superb performance at the back. Oldham were in the ascendency. Now it was Oldham’s turn to pile on the pressure Oliver, Sean and Andrew were doing a sterling job to keep Mossley level.

 

 

  • After wrestling the initiative back in midfield Olivia took control . Harrison with time on the ball put a perfect defence splitting pass through to Jacob who once again lifted a left foot top corner beauty over the helpless keeper GOAL 2-1 Mossley ! 

 

  • Oldham restart the game again pushing forward, there was no way through. Olivia takes the fight to Oldham battling away laying off some good passes and having a couple of shots. Harrison and Charlie are really working hard trying to win every ball. The pressure was really getting to the Oldham players. Surely it was only a matter of time before Mossley added another goal?

 

  • This came with some great quick passing which led Charlie to the byline where he fired across goal with Ciaran Mc dispatching the ball clinically into the Oldham net GOAL 3-1 Mossley!

 

 

  • Oldham were still not beaten coming again at Mossley’s defence Yves made a few vital saves coming out well to the ball. Sean’s unconventional block prevented a certain goal. Finally Oldham managed to get one back GOAL 3-2 Oldham!

 

    • This boosted Oldham and they were now on the charge. Yves made a great save at full stretch to his right to deny Oldham the equalizer. A massive kick from him down field followed. Would Mossley be able to hold onto their slim three goals to two advantage? 

     

 

  • Mossley were really working hard as a team and were pushing  to get another goal. Andrew plays the ball to Sean who plays a good ball to Olivia, the balls fed to the left for Charlie to fling another cross in for the inform Joe who cuts in from the right wing and finishes with a deft touch GOAL 4-2 Mossley!

 

  • The conditions worsened and there were some ominous dark clouds looming for Oldham , but they responded with a burst from the right leading to a clinical through ball to leave thier powerful Oldham striker one on one with Yves. A brilliant looping shot was going in all the way until Yves somehow extended himself to push the shot over the crossbar . Magnificent save by Yves . 

 

  • Oldham were now deflated. Harry returned to the game replacing Andrew at left wing . His introduction was inspired. He was charging all over the pitch, really hungry for the ball, chasing with great determination. Another quality build up in midfield found Jacob in space on the left and he cut inside hitting a right foot shot on goal only to be denied his hatrick by the Oldham keeper.  

 

  • The rain started again as the match was drawing to an end. Mossley still keep pressing, showing great stamina and now had the physical edge over their opponents who seem to be beaten.

 

 

 Mossley sustain the pressure, the result of this another left wing cross from Charlie which the Oldham keeper parried into the path of  Ciaran Mc who cooly slotted the ball in at his near post GOAL 5-2 Mossley! 

  JOB DONE

  • The rain sets in again. A few final exchanges in the midfield and its match over Mossley Win! 5-2.
