Back to league action this week as Mossley u11’s and Chadderton FC Juniors Blacks U11’s met at a warm and sunny Astley. Mossley were looking to bounce back from last week’s narrow cup defeat with victory this week but knew that Chadderton would be no pushover especially as both teams were defending 100% league records this season.

1^st Half

• Ciaran F almost releases Reece but the ‘Bulldozer’ can’t quite reach his raking throughball.
• Harrison finds Reece, who fires over from outside the box.
• Charlie gets in the action with a good header.
• Mossley’s positive start is rewarded as Jacob’s long throw is handled by a Chadderton defender – PENALTY. Up steps dead-ball expert Harrison to crash home his third spot-kick of the season to break the deadlock. 1-0 to MOSSLEY.

• Flowing Mossley football as Ciaran F finds Harrison who in turn passes to Charlie.
• Olivia then finds Reece with a lovely pass.
• Chadderton’s keeper lauches a huge kick downfield which almost catches Mossley out but Yves comes out and makes a great fingertip save one-on-one to turn the ball around the post.
• Mossley attack at pace from the resulting corner as Jacob heads clear to Reece who then releases Charlie who is bundled to the ground.
• Super free-kick from Ciaran F. reaches Harrison whose shot is saved well by the Chadderton keeper.

• Good defending by Ciaran F who watches a difficult ball before mopping up comfortably.
• Both teams are quick to the challenge and a real midfield battle is starting to take shape.
• Clearance downfield by Harrison as Chadderton attack.
• Lovely skills down the right by Harrison whose tricks beat a couple.
• Charlie finds Reece with a good pass.
• Great commitment shown by Jacob who closes down well as Chadderton try to progress down the right.
• A dangerous looking attack from Chadderton is stopped by Sean who intercepts.
• Chadderton’s main weapon is proving to be long kicks from their goalkeeper and following another they shoot wide albeit after good pressure from James in defence.
• The midfield is still scrappy but Jacob shows he is up for the battle, whilst Harrison’s great feet enable him to evade a couple of challenges.

• Good defending from Sean again as he clears first of all, before then making a good interception on the next Chadderton attack.
• James finds Harrison with a good ball.
• Harrison receives James’ free-kick and then finds Jacob on the left, he turns well but his cross is cut out.
• Good combination play between Harrison, Joe and Charlie ends with the latter shooting over from outside the box.
• Oliver, Harrison and Jacob link up well.
• Chadderton attack down the right but Charlie tackles back and then clears.
• Charlie is then up at the other end causing havoc as his cross is met by Harrison whose shot is blocked.
• Yves saves well as Chadderton counter.

• Great play from Mossley as Jacob exchanges passes with Charlie before finding Harrison whose shot is saved by the excellent Chadderton keeper.
• Another long kick from the keeper is well watched by Sean who defends well again.
• James finds Olivia who in turn feeds Joe whose cross from the right is just out of Charlie’s reach.
• Chadderton then enjoy a brief good spell as they shoot wide on one attack but are then thwarted by the bravery of Yves who puts his face on the line to protect the lead and keep them at bay.

• Yet another booming kick from Chadderton’s keeper is this time met by James who heads away from danger brilliantly.
• Good passing between Jacob, Charlie and Harrison.
• It’s nearly two but the Chaddy keeper saves well again after Charlie receives Jacob’s throw and wriggles free in the box before hitting his shot on-target.
• Super play as James clears and then tackles well.
• There’s some keep-ball between Jacob and Harrison who exchange countless passes and make quick progress down the left to switch defence into attack.
• Jacob and Harrison combine again after the ball goes out of play as the former finds the latter with a long throw before Harrison’s goal-bound effort is saved once more.
• The half ends with some strong play from James as he again makes a good headed clearance before showing he can be effective in attack too with a powerful run down the right culminating in a cross that almost reaches Harrison.
• HALF TIME.

2^nd Half

• Mossley start the second half brightly as Joe goes on one of his trademark runs down the right which has a couple of defenders back-pedalling.
• Reece produces a clever overhead kick as he looks for a team-mate.
• More good play down the right from Joe who continues to cause problems.
• Out of the blue Chadderton equalise but their attacker was way offside as the ball is played through. Mossley wait for the whistle and shouldn’t because it doesn’t come and the forward finishes easily past the static Callum. Mossley 1 Chadderton 1.
• Mossley looked stunned but Chadderton are revitalised by that goal, James responds well though as he hits a searching ball forward.

• Great clearing header from James again.
• Leading from the front, the captain, Olivia, is getting stuck in and heads away well.
• Mossley have settled again now as Harrison is released by Jacob’s throughball but his shot is blocked.
• Superb sliding challenge by Charlie who times it to perfection.
• Chadderton offer a reminder of their threat with another direct attack culminating in a shot wide.
• More skills from Joe as he runs the Chaddy defence ragged not once but twice.
• Total football from Mossley as Charlie finds Reece who in turn finds Jacob whose pull back is met by Harrison whose shot is well saved once more. Joe follows up but his effort is also saved. Great goalkeeping.
• Following a short corner, Charlie gets himself some space on the edge of the box but he pulls his shot wide.
• Direct from Chadderton again but their forward fires over the bar when through on goal.
• Jacob finds Reece but the ‘bulldozer’ hits his shot over the bar.
• Sean gets a good foot in to stop the next Chadderton attack.
• Jacob’s throw finds Reece whose pass finds Joe who is muscled off the ball this time.
• The long kicks downfield by the Chaddy keeper have been well and truly neutralised thanks to James who again heads away magnificently.
• Chadderton keep threatening and they again shoot over when a chance arises.

• Mossley counter as Charlie sends Reece away but his on-target shot is palmed away again.
• Ciaran F covers well before clearing downfield.
• The game is becoming a tense affair as Mossley continue to play great football but Chadderton remain dangerous  with their long ball tactic .    
• A good ball forward by Andrew switches the emphasis from defence to attack.
• Andrew repeats the trick with a ball to Harrison who shoots over from outside the box.
• It is a very warm day but Jacob’s stamina is evident as he makes a burst down the left earning a throw.
• Jacob’s throw finds Reece whose scuffed shot is saved.
• Olivia does tremendously well with an excellent run down the right.
• A long-ranger from Harrison is well saved by the impressive Chaddy goalkeeper.
• Charlie releases Reece, who is marginally offside but goes on to finish in the bottom corner. Disallowed.
• Callum has to be on his toes as Chadderton shoot at goal, he saves well though.
• Good play as Ciaran F turns well before finding Jacob who then exchanges passes with Reece.
• More determined play from Charlie who tackles well.

• Mossley earn a corner after Harrison finds Reece who bulldozes his way to the byeline.
• The game enters the last few minutes and Chadderton almost snatch a winner but the cross-shot from the right goes wide.
• Mossley go straight up the other end though and from Jacob’s cross, Reece unluckily sees his effort come back off the post, Joe gets to the rebound first but his attempt is blocked.
• Joe nearly scores again after being found in the box by Reece but his shot is saved once more.
• Mossley end the game in the ascendancy as great play from Olivia earns a corner but Chadderton hold firm one last time.

Mossley stay unbeaten in the league but were frustrated as Chadderton equalised with a goal that appeared offside at the time. Further evidence of this was emphasised by the referee who apologised at the end of the game although the main lesson to be learnt from the experience is that you should always play to the whistle. That said it was a great game to watch and Mossley who may have lost against physical, direct opponents like that in the not too distant past, played some really entertaining football.

Gaffer says “an unfortunate mistake denied us a deserved victory against a very powerful opponent” .
