U 10s Match Report v Medlock Rangers Blacks 17-12-11

Mossley Juniors U10’s V Medlock Rangers Blacks

17^{th December 2011. K.O. 12:15.}

Match 1:

Team: Reece, Ryan, Ben, Harry, Charlie, Warren, Zak, Sophie, Josh, Robert.

The match started with Medlock Rangers Blacks on the on the attack and shot to bring a save from Reece. Next Ryan had to boot the ball forward from defence. Again on the attack the Medlock no. 10 had a good shot towards goal. The defence were under siege but the team tried really hard to protect the net. Ben put a strong tackle in to stop the attack down the flank. A Medlock corner was fired across goal and Charlie cleared with a firm header. A shot came in from the Medlock no. 7.  A controversial incident unfolded where Reece was blocked but must have been unseen as it should have been a free-kick to Mossley but a corner to Medlock was given. The cross came in and an unfortunate hand ball and penalty was given which didn’t look deliberate and more often go unpunished.  The supporters and coaches were astonished but the penalty was taken and fired in to the back of the net. Then another chance! No goal given as the ref wasn’t ready and the penalty would need to be taken again. The Medlock no. 10 kept his cool and fired the ball in to the back of the net once again to put Medlock one up. From the restart pressure came back on to Mossley but Sophie cleared the ball twice to put the ball back in to the opponents half.  Another corner from Medlock was flashed across the goal mouth but gladly went out for a throw. A good move from Mossley came with Josh running forward and shooting on target but saved by the keeper. The half ended with a Medlock shot and save pushed wide of the goal by Reece.

A more positive start to the second half commenced with good passing between Josh, Ben and Charlie towards the opponent goal. The counter from Medlock was met with clearances from Ben then Robert. Next a Medlock attack and good shot and goal from the No.9 made it 2. Josh was now in the centre of defence and made some solid interceptions. Harry came across to firmly clear to touch. Another shot from Medlock was well saved by Reece. Warren battled and intercepted a pass and pushed the attack back towards the opponents half. Zak tried to force a way through the Medlock defence but they held firm. Good tackling from Charlie and Sophie in midfield prevented any further Medlock attacks before the final whistle came.

Medlock put out a strong team and had the best of the play but some good defensive performances by Mossley kept the score tally down.

Final score: Mossley Juniors 0 Medlock Rangers Blacks 2.

Match 2:

Team: Elias, Ashley, Jaydan, Robbie, Jack, Sam, Olly, Ben A.

From the kick off Medlock pressed forward and earned a corner. This was kicked in to the box and saved by Elias. It was now Mossley’s turn to push forward and we earned a corner that was well taken by Ashley. Soon after, the ball fell to Jadan who passed wide to Ashley, who fed the ball down the line to Jack who crossed the ball to Robbie who struck the ball well, a cool finish, and a goal to Mossley.  Soon after the team were down to six boys as Jack came off for treatment. Mossley still pushed forward and Olly took a corner. Then came a free-kick and Ashley drove the ball hard in to the box. A strong tackle came in from Sam to retrieve the ball and pass to Olly who shot wide. From the next move a shot towards goal from Sam went wide. In midfield there was some good passing between Ashley, Sam and Jack who was now back on the pitch. Jack took a corner but no end result this time.

In the second half Olly had a dynamic run and shot that was saved by keepers legs. Next, Ashley dribbled forward and shot, the keeper spilled the save and Jack pounced to steal a goal from close range. Soon after Ashley did a shimmy to make room for a shot that was well saved this time. Jack took the corner high to Sam who headed on to bar. More confident passing from Mossley and opening for Robbie to shoot but went wide.  Mossley were committing boys forward and Medlock hit quickly on the break and a rare mix up in defence led to the Medlock striker taking full advantage to score. From the restart some good defending from Sam was noted to snub out the counter attack. As the ball came high to Robbie a sickening crack was heard as a Medlock boot accidently struck him full in the face. Everyone winced at the awful collision. Brave Robbie had to be helped to the touch line to recover.  While Robbie was receiving treatment Ben came on to cover in defence, contributing with several throw ins and tackles. Sam was everywhere in midfield and made several solid tackles. Then a cross from Jack was headed by Olly but met with a save.  Another chance fell to Olly but shot wide this time.

A win for Mossley, with lots of goal chances that ended up a close result.

Final score: Mossley Juniors 2 Medlock Rangers Blacks 1.

Next game currently scheduled as 21st January 2012 against Heyside Junior 2 in the under 10’s Div 2 Div Cup.
